Fans Direct bring MacroAirTM Fans to Australia and New Zealand
MacroAir™ brings a whole new concept in creating comfortable climates in big industrial spaces to Australia and New Zealand. Until now, designing or managing large, high ceiling internal spaces has meant very expensive cooling and heating plant that costs the earth to run. But now, all you need are some really big overhead fans.   Up to 7.2 metres in diameter, these fans are designed from advanced technology, but their result is very simple. In hot weather they can move up to 10,000 cubic metres of air per minute as a gentle breeze that cools the apparent temperature by 4 to 6ºC.    In winter, they move the layer of warm air at ceiling level, bringing it down to increase the temperature for people below. Ongoing running costs are a tiny fraction of any other heating or cooling solution which also means the creation of greenhouse gases is significantly less too. When retrofitted alongside existing air conditioning systems, savings in running costs of up to 15% can be achieved with no reduction in people’s comfort.

How do you improve the thermal comfort of people in large buildings without breaking the bank?
Anybody who runs a large box style retail showroom, factory or distribution centre knows that keeping people cool when it’s hot or vice versa is usually just too expensive.  And it’s not only the upfront cost of putting in a cooling system, operating conventional heating or cooling  plant can run to thousands of dollars per year.  Most owners or building managers make the same choice; keep the money in their pockets and put up with grumpy staff or worse, lost customers, when temperatures head high in summer or low in winter.MacroAir Fan in mechanical workshop

At last there is an affordable answer to this age old problem and Fans Direct has brought it to the Australian and New Zealand markets.  MacroAirTM   ‘The Original Big Fans’,  deliver  a cooling breeze in summer or bring warm air down from the ceiling in winter to greatly increase comfort levels at a tiny fraction of the cost of any alternative solution.

How does it work?
MacroAirTM
fans are really big overhead fans that can move up to 10,000 cubic meters of air per minute as a gentle breeze!  There is a lot of science behind the development of these fans but the result is simple; air moving gently at a few km/h makes a person feels 4°C to 6°C cooler on a hot summer’s day.  In winter, the benefit is just as noticeable, even on the coldest day there is a layer of warmer air near the roof level of any building and the MacroAirTM   fans are able to bring it down to where it’s needed – where people are working or shopping.  And as an added bonus, these big fans are almost totally silent.  The technical name for the product is a High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) Fan.  Think of a really big version of a domestic ceiling fan and you get the picture.

How does the cost compare?
Nothing else comes close, either for upfront installation or ongoing running costs.  Like for like, MacroAirTM  fans  compared with evaporative cooling (the nearest system for moving large volumes of air) come in at about half the cost and there is no water consumption to worry about.  And when it comes to ongoing running costs, a 7.2m fan works out at less than 20 cents per hour!  That low running cost is a direct measure of the efficiency of these fans.  It would take up to thirty  pedestal fans you see in some shops or workplaces to move the same amount of air as one MacroAirTM fan.

A word from the inventor...

"By applying the laws of aero and fluid dynamics with sound mechanical engineering principles and an inventor’s perspective on a simple concept, the ceiling fan; HVLS technology evolved. Now, it is changing the way airflow systems are designed, implemented and managed worldwide"

Walter K. Boyd
Inventor, HVLS Technology
